Birds’ chasing in Muscat City
Due to its increasing popularity as a birding destination, Sultanate of Oman is a home and a landing destination for thousands of migrating and resident birds such as owls, vultures, seagulls and other African and Indian migrating birds all year long, yet in different locations.
Even though Oman has few natural birds’ reserves across the country, still we can always spot different species even if driving around the capital, Muscat.
My most recent visit was to Yiti area. Despite the multi-million tourism project being developed in the area, Yiti’s hidden spots have a lot to offer for birds’ watchers.

An afternoon hike in Sidab, Muscat
Sidab hike a nice hiking trail in the Sidab fishing village near Muscat, generally considered a moderately challenging route (not easy for kids) , it takes an average of 2 hours to complete the entire track, out and back, with some swimming and photography.
The hike starts through Sidab’s old cemetery going up towards the 1st hill climbing a man-made stepladder to give access to the peak before we start descending to beautiful peaceful beaches suitable for snorkeling and swimming.
The trek takes us through a couple of rugged passes which are steep and very narrow topped by sharp rocks.
The trek can take you to many stunning places and beaches, yet we took the left side from the 1st beach and ended at the stunning famous elephant rock that is considered one of the most beautiful snorkeling areas around Muscat city
The birds of Masirah Island in Oman
Masirah Island is not only known as a kitesurfing and surfing destination. The island is well known for its beautiful beaches of white sands and turquoise water, yet Masirah Island is also a well-known destination for birds watching as the island is home for some of immigrant and resident rare birds’ species which could be seen nesting in different spots around the island.
The following photos are from an exclusive visit to Mursais Island (almost 1 Kilometer away from the mainland) which is home to thousands of birds- Visit arranged by Masirah’s native Zaal Al Waheibi.
